From the Observation Deck

Vietnamese Road Rules
(also applicable to Cambodia)

1) Small yields to big. And so pedestrians and animals are lowest on the totem pole.

2) Walk, don't run when crossing the street. That way motorists have a better chance of avoiding you.

3) Disregard all traffic lights.

4) Pass on the left. Or on the right.

5) When your side of the street isn't moving due to traffic, proceed into oncoming traffic.

6) If you missed your turn, turn anyway, into oncoming traffic, or down a one way street.

7) Honk when behind someone.

8) Honk when passing someone.

9) Especially on long bus journeys, honk 90% of the time.

10) When in doubt, honk.

There is order in this chaos. It actually works. And it's absolutely thrilling to be caught up in the middle of it.
